From Kenya With Love - The Final Letter (#26)






It's sad, but this is the final letter I have to share with you from Judith. I'm sure when Judith wrote this letter, she only thought that myself and my husband would read its message. Instead, hundreds of people have heard the words of this letter and have likely inspired people to sponsor their own child. I read this letter in almost every presentation I give and when you read it yourself, you will understand why.

I feel so blessed to have been part of Judith's story and to have her be part of mine.







Dear Mrs. Jill Foley,


Receive precious greetings from me in Jesus name. I'm sorry and very sad when writing this letter to you because it's my last letter. In fact, I never imagined that our communication will come to an end. But if I look back into my life I'm very much impressed and comforted of what good you have done in me. Your help has shown light in my life. I'm educated. (emphasis mine) I have also done a tailoring course and qualified. I never knew in my life I would have such kind of education compared to my family's poor standard of living. Actually because of your love we're now living in a good shelter too. I completed my course and now I'm no longer in school. I feel I should start a business but finance is a problem to my plan. I hope you will pray for me. Jill Foley, though we shall no more communicate I will never forget you. (Nor will I forget you, sweet Judith.) I will keep on remembering you in my prayers because what you have done in my life is great. I and our family are fine. Even my small baby Priscilla is fine too. They have all greeted you and they thanked you very much. Everyone in my family says the house in which they live reminds them of your love for them. May the Lord Jesus give you prolonged life. May you live to be remembered.

From Kenya With Love - Letter #25

This is the second to last letter I received from Judith ~ dated April 2000.  Be sure to come back next week for her final letter ~ it's a good one.


Dear Mrs. Jill,
It's another good moment that the love of our almighty God and his happiness have come to me to pass my greetings to you and your family. I'm still fine in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour. I was very much pleased when I received your letter which you sent to me. This implies that you always think of me as your sponsored child.
I am also happy to see that my letter reached to you. At home our dog gave birth to eight puppies as I had told you earlier. Unfortunately four of them died and remained four which have grown up. Our dog's name is Popi. Here at our place we are weeding and the crops which we planted are doing well due to adequate rainfall. The crops which we planted are corns and beans. 
I also thank you for the Christmas gift which you sent to me work ksh 866.60 and I bought a blanket and a hurricane lamp and the balance which remained I bought one packet of baking flour which we used during Christmas day. Now we are celebrating Easter holiday about the death and crucifixion of Jesus. I will go to church to celebrate it.
My family members are happy as you extremely help me and my family as a whole. They pray for you and your family. God's blessing to dwell upon you. Finally I pray that God's blessing will rest upon you and your family as a whole. May the almighty God be with you as you even celebrate this Easter.

From Kenya With Love - Letter #24

This letter you are about to read is most definitely the most surprising letter I have ever received in 18 years of sponsorship. As you read below you will quickly understand why. I can only imagine what this young lady went through concerning this whole situation. 


Dear Mrs. Jill,
Receive warm greetings from your beloved sponsored child Judith. I hope you are doing fine in the loving mighty name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus.
I was very much thankful for the Christmas gift you send to me last year December 1999. From the gift I bought a big and nice blanket which keeps me warm during the night. The little balance that remained I bought food for the family to enjoy together during Christmas day. I again thank you for other gifts which you always send to me, may of the gift have uplifted the standard of living of our home.
This is millenium 2000 which the mighty God enabled me to reach and see. He's so wonderful many people talked ill of the century but I thank God for what he's doing to me and you. People said the world will end, but God's love is eternal. After welcoming the new millenium 2000, I gave birth to a very jolly and nice baby girls called Pricilla Kuya. It was a surprise to me, family members and Compassion staff. Because they did not know I was pregnant. They have been asking me a lot of questions how I got the pregnancy. I am sorry for you to hear that I have a baby which I gave birth and I know you will ask me a question why I did not inform you earlier that I was expecting. I did know know about the pregnancy until I gave birth because God had a purpose to hide the problem. Maybe it could have caused me to be departed. The good Christmas gift of a blanket I do share it with my baby. 
I kindly ask you to continue with our relationship. Let not the baby separate us because it is a gift from God. The father of the baby is not at home. He ran away when he heard I had given birth. He's still young who cannot take care of me and the baby. So I am staying at home with my parents. 
I did my 3rd grade in tailoring. I am still waiting for the results. I would like to continue with grade two after the baby is big. And all that will happen if you will continue to sponsor me.

I remember having so many questions after receiving this letter. I wanted to know how this could happen to my sweet girl - what were the details she was leaving out. What wasn't she telling me? I didn't ask any of these questions because it really didn't matter. I can tell from her letter that she was scared to tell me - would I disapprove and cancel my sponsorship?

After this letter I realized I was no longer supporting a child - I was supporting a young mother and her child. My very first Child Survival sponsorship - long before CSP existed!

I only have two more letters to share with you. Judith's sponsorship did come to an end, but not because of this situation. Rather it was because she was 18 and had completed the program.

From Kenya With Love - Letter #23







This next letter from Judith is dated August, 1999. I love how she calls this letter a "paper phone". This letter was written only one month later than the previous letter and much of the wording is exactly the same as the letter I shared last week. I'm not exactly sure why, but I've gone ahead and typed it all out again as this letter contains some new information. This is the letter where Judith begins mentioning that she is using the extra money I send for gifts to build a better house for her family.

Dear Mrs. Jill,
It's my personal pleasure on this privileged occasion to paper phone to you this letter hoping that you are still alive through his guidance. At home my family members are still find and they are still praying for you in all your whatever you do. In our project we got a new social worker which is a blessing to us. He is saved and his name is Kennedy Kobira from Kusii. 
In my tailoring college I'm going on well with my work and I think at the end of the year I will succeed in my life. I have learnt a lot because now I can make several types of dresses (eg. shirts, blouses, skirt, short trousers, full dresses) and I usually enjoy it. 
Our dog gave birth to new puppies and I like to see such creatures. Do you have a dog?
On Sunday I usually go to church where by we sing song of praising the highest God, memorizing verses from the Bible and even preaching the word of God. I always feel happy when I see people singing and praising God in our church. 
It is through your support that I'm still in Compassion and by God's mercy unto me and also our family members. 
I would like to share with you a verse from the Bible in the book of Psalms - chapter 121:1-4 "I look to the mountains where my help will come from? My help will come from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. He will not let you fall. Your protector is always awake. The protector of Israel never dozes or sleeps."
We have also started a new project of poultry keeping. They are small. They are one week old and in a few months they will be laying eggs. Do you also keep chickens?
In our community people are busy harvesting beans which is very wonderful to eat. Soon we shall be eating maize. 
May the glory of God shine on you as you proceed on with your work. Get lots of thanks from your sponsored child as I thank you for the two wonderful gifts I have received from you. The first one was in April amounting to 642.25. I bought a very nice dress. And the other one was in July. I bought poles to start preparing a house. We have stayed for long without a house and I believe from the gift you are sending to me, I will be buying one item after the other until it will be complete. Otherwise, thank you for the good love you are showing me. Through your kind sponsorship our family will be domestically uplifted. 
I am going on well with tailoring skill. I am now doing my last year. I will sit for grade III end of this year. I also think more about you as you do. And I will be praying for the Lord blessings to you. The letters you write to me are very much encouraging.
