Time to Write

I’m a little behind in my letter writing this month. September snuck up on me and I’ve been a little busy with “back to school” (we homeschool).

Nonetheless, I was able to write a brief note to each of our sponsored children. In order to get this done and not put it off any longer, I am sending all of them the exact same letter. I’ll go through the letters I received and write individual letters on line this weekend. ***(Make sure you come back here Friday for a special announcement concerning letter writing)

Anyway….I went with a fall/thanksgiving theme this time around.

I found these half sheets of fall stationary at Dollar Tree and decided to use them.

I also had a few birthday cards to send…(these are Target dollar bin specials)

In 17 years I’ve never actually sent a birthday card to my sponsored children. I usually just send a birthday letter on birthday themed paper. I hope they will really like these cards.

Now in keeping with my monthly tradition, I will giveaway 2 more correspondence kits.

Each correspondent kit will have 13 fun sheets of paper (one for each month of the year and one for birthday) and extra goodies to included in your letters. You will have your choice of young girl, teen girl, young boy or teen boy. To see samples, go HERE.

To enter:

  • Write your child and leave a comment letting me know you did this (anytime this month counts)
  • Simply tell me you’d like to win
  • Spread the word about this giveaway (facebook, twitter, OC, your blog, email, etc)….leave a comment telling me how you did this
  • If you haven’t already, tell me about your Compassion kids
  • If you don’t already, follow this blog…if you already follow, get someone else to follow : )

***if you have trouble commenting, email me at fiddlejill(at)yahoo(dot)com and I'll get you entered.

I will put your name in for each of the above items. If you write to your kids, tell me you want to win and post this on facebook, you'll be entered 3 times.

Entries will be accepted between now and Monday, September 19th. I will announce a winner at 12 EST on that day.

(Make sure you come back here Friday for a special announcement concerning letter writing)

I would like to win :) And I'm finishing up with reply letters to my kids this morning...almost done. I also posted it on FB and I started following you :)

By the way, I really like those sparkly cards...I think I will have to find a target soon to get some :)

The cards are Target are hit or miss so don't give up if you don't find them right away....I've seen them off and on for the past year now. Once I hit a clearance sale and they were 25cents each!

Hey Jill! I wrote all seven of my kids a few days back, sending them postcards of my recent travels. I've seen the "preview" about the letter writing announcement on Our Compassion, and I am SOOO excited! I have 3 sponsored, 4 correspondence kids. Two from Tanzania, Two from Ethiopia, One each from Ghana, Kenya, and Ecuador.

I'd love to win!

I would love to win the kit! I just got a new correspondence child this week. Arter is from Indonesia and I'm at a loss about what to send him! He's turning 14 on Friday. My girls I have no problem coming up with things for (I have a correspondence girl from Compassion, and a sponsor girl from World Vision) I wrote to him, and Michelina (she is 13 and from Haiti) already this month. Michelina's letter got sent last week, and I emailed Arter on Sept. 12th, the day that he was assigned to me. I will send him a real letter after I receive his packet. I just signed up to subscribe to your blog via email. I really enjoy following other sponsors and hearing their stories and ideas. Thanks for the chance to win!

As I mentioned to Debbie, it's hard to know what to send to the older boys. I just send them what I send to the younger ones and they can do with it whatever they want. They probably appreciate things more than teen boys do here.

I would love a correspondence kit. I'm a new correspondence sponsor for three older children...two 20 year old girls and a 19 year old boy. The girls are from Ethiopia and Rwanda and Eric is from Kenya. I'm having a little bit of trouble with what to send to the older kids and any ideas would be greatly appreciated. While I won't be able to write the children more than a year or two, I want them to know that they are prayed for, thought of each day, and loved. I send my first letters via email as soon as I received the information on my account last week and while I was on vacation I bought a lot of postcards to send them. I also sponsor eight "littles" through World Vision. I love sending letters to these children and I feel that I receive more blessings to have the opportunity to be their sponsor. God bless and thanks for the opportunity!

Wow Debbie, that's awesome. I love writing to older kids....I write to 2 LDP students - David is 23 and Cilia is 18. Several of our sponsored kids are also older...Dominic is turning 21 next month!, Bulu is 18 and Suresh is 17. It is hard to find things to send them....I usually just send them whatever I'm sending the others. Yes...they are likely too old for stickers, but they can give them to a younger sibling or younger child at the Compassion project.

- I wrote all three of my children September 8, 2011. Here is a link to show you the Autumn themed letters I wrote and posted on Compassions Facebook page to get other sponsors creative juices flowing: http://www.facebook.com/#!/permalink.php?story_fb...
- I would be so grateful to win a correspondent kit! :)
- I will be posting this link on my Facebook page and encouraging others through Compassion's Facebook page to enter to win the kits.
- I have three Compassion kids! I sponsored Yesid from Colombia (11) when I was 18 years old in March of this year. I wanted to do so much more through Compassion but couldn't afford another sponsorship and then I learned about being a correspondent. I called Compassion up right away and asked if I could be put on the list for a correspondent child, the same day Yessica from Boliva (12) was placed with me!! I was so excited that I called Compassion to be placed on the list once more and a few days later Keyjeboy from the Phillippines (9) was sponsored and placed with me. :)
- As soon as I hit "Submit Comment" I will go to the "follow by email" and start following! :)

Thanks for all your entries : )

I began sponsoring when I was 18 also (maybe 19...) Anyway, it's been 17 years and I'm addicted. Have you considered becoming an advocate?

Love the autumn themed letters you put together.

I saw something about becoming an advocate on Compassion's website but I wasn't really sure what it was. I signed up to be a volunteer when events are hosted in my area but I don't think that is the same thing.. I want to be involved with Compassion for many many years and I can't wait to sponsor more children! Sponsoring Yesid led to many beautiful things including me going back to church and getting saved (how can you sponsor a child and release them from poverty in Jesus' name when you don't have a close relationship with Jesus yourself?).

And that you so much! :) That's about all the creativity I have though! haha.
What a cool story you have - you sponsored a child, went back to church and gave your life to God. So often we rejoice when sponsored children heard and respond to the gospel, but today I am rejoicing because YOU (the sponsor) heard and responded to the gospel. I would love to hear more about this! Would you consider sharing your testimony with others by writing a blog post for me?

About the advocate network...you can read more about it here
http://www.compassion.com/volunteer/join-volunteer-network.htm

It's a great network of people who are passionate about finding sponsors for more children. Compassion provides lots of resources for advocates - books, videos, training, coaching, etc. I am happy to talk with you more and answer any questions you might have.

I suppose I could, I'm not a very good writer and I'm not sure what all I would say. If you want me to I will though :)

I read about becoming an advocate and it seems like a lot. of work, I'm a full time college student and work two jobs, will I have time to do all that? What if I couldn't get any kids sponsored? I'm not sure I can do all that yet... :(
