What to Write ~ Summer

Summer is in full swing and it might just be a good topic for your next letter to your Compassion kids. I wrote to all our kids this past week and wrote about summer.

Here are some questions to think about to get you started:
What are your favorite things about summer?
What are the average temperatures during the summer months?
What are your favorite flowers?
What specific things make you sure summer is in the air?
What are your favorite activities to do during this season?
What holidays or other special days do you celebrate during summer?
How long does summer last?

And here's a sample letter....

Dear.....

Hello! How are you? We are well and are enjoying summer here in Oregon. I thought I would tell you some of the things we like most about summer in our country. Finally the rain has stopped and the days are sunny and warm. We love to spend time outside. I have a garden behind our house and I love to watch how everything changes each day. I love to grow flowers, but also grow herbs and vegetables that we can eat. So far we have grown strawberries, lettuce, cucumbers, peppers, beans and squash. Soon the tomatoes will ripen too. In the photo you can see a beautiful butterfly perched on top of one of the flowers in our garden. I love butterflies and flowers!

We live near a river and a lake and one of our favorite things to do in summer is to go swimming. Do you like to swim?
The only holiday we celebrate in summer is our Independence Day. This is the day that marks the birthday of our country. In our family we have a couple other family celebrations. One is Jill's birthday and the other is our wedding anniversary.  This year we are celebrating 17 years of marriage. We are so thankful God has given us so many years together.
Another thing we like about summer is Vacation Bible School at our church. For one week kids gather at our church every night for 3 hours and learn about God, sing songs, play games and eat snacks. Every year we have a different theme and this year the theme is called Kingdom Rock. We will decorate our church like a castle to match the theme.
I will close this letter with love and prayers for you and your family. Please write to us soon and tell us how we can pray for you. I also want to know….what do you want to be when you grow up?
