Surprise!

I logged into my Compassion account today because yesterday we received an updated photo of Joseph in Tanzania. I was curious to see if any of our other kids had updated photos...

As I began scrolling through our sponsored kids photos, I noticed two new faces!!

Antoni in the Dominican Republic

Veronica, also in the Dominican Republic

Apparently we've been assigned two more correspondence kids ~ what a joy and what a blessing it will be to be able to write to these kids. It's my dream to go to the Dominican Republic, and if I do, I will get to meet these kiddos! (It's also my dream to go to Kenya....and just about every other country in the world!)

Part of me feels overwhelmed at the idea of adding two more kids...I've never written to 24 kids before. I might have to come up with a new system or at least spread my letter writing out and not try to do it all at once. But another part of me knows this is a very small thing I can do to make a very big difference in the lives of these children.

Now I'm glad I've procrastinated in writing my introductory letters to Stephen and Duncan...now I can write all four and I plan to do it TODAY!

Have you had any surprises lately?

So exciting! I just got two new correspondent girls! They are also from the DR. How do you stay "on"the waiting list so that you just get new ones like that?

I don't know...I didn't know I was on any sort of waiting list, except that last month when I got Duncan and Stephen I was notified my email. I responded to the email saying thanks and that I was always willing to take on more if needed.

This time I wasn't notified - I just noticed them in my account. I'm not sure what the system is - or even if there is one. Another time I responded to an appeal for correspondences and didn't get any. It seems random to me...

That's seems the way it is to be too. I requested two more and got my DR girls, and then today got another girl from the DR without asking. I guess it is just the willingness they look at and I am sure God has a hand in it too :)
That's great that you got two new correspondence kids! I, too, am curious how you get on a permanent waiting list for correspondence kids. I asked if I could be put on the list several weeks ago, and I check my account multiple times a day- no new kids. You are not the only blogger I follow who has received more than one correspondence sponsorship at a time, either. I have only ever received single correspondence sponsorships, and each time I have had to come close to begging for them (we have five, currently, and the last few times I was told I could only get another correspondence sponsorship if there was a "great need", if no one else was waiting, and because one of my kids had dropped out of the program.)

I have requested more correspondence kids before and gotten none when others were getting them. This most recent time I requested, I said I could take one or two....and I got two. I got an email telling me of the new correspondence kids and I replied saying "Thanks....I am always willing to take more." So I guess that's how I got another two today.

There have been times when they limit the number of correspondence kids you can have, but I'm not sure how it all works of if there is still a limit. I have 6 now, so I don't expect any more.

Hey Jessi- I think it is just letting them know you are willing to take on more as needed. I know God will give you more when he thinks the time’s right for you to have more.
Blessings!
I am curious about how you manage to write to all these children. You must have an incredibly organized system. I need to work on a better system if I am going to take on any more kids, but you're inspiring me to take more!

I actually wrote a post about it a while ago (when I was writing to 19)

I still use this method, as it seems to work pretty well.

Sorry! Thanks. You can tell I'm new to your blog. I hadn't found that yet.
That's fine....I just thought it would be easier to point you there than try to rewrite my method!

That's so exciting about your new correspondent kids!!! What a fun surprise! I hope that it's not too overwhelming :)
Hi Jill,

That is really amazing. I've asked Compassion UK whether I can have correspondent-kids as well as sponsored, but they don't find correspondents for people at the moment. I guess with less staff they have to limit the things they can branch out into.

And yes, I had a Compassion-surprise this week too. A friend-of-a-friend is visiting the project my Cindy's in and has offered to take a gift and try to meet her! I don't know the lady so haven't asked, but I really hope she takes some video because I'd love to hear Cindy's voice!

That would be so wonderful for you! I remember when Julie went to Kenya and took a video of Dominic - I hadn't even thought of asking her to do this, so it was such a wonderful surprise and something I'll always cherish.

Congratulations on your growing sponsorship family! On April 10th I received a new correspondence sponsorship and he's also from the Domincan Republic! His name is Oliver and he's 14. He makes #4 to write to for me (actually #5 including my World Vision sponsorship). I can't imagine writing to 24!

I started small and over the years our "family" has grown gradually - I think if I had jumped from 3 or 4 to 20+ it would have been overwhelming, but when it grows slowly it's not as noticeable.
