Easter for Compassion Children

There is a great post on Compassion's blog, today, about how Easter is celebrated in Ghana.

I looked up other Easter/country posts and thought I would post the links here for you to read. Our family sponsors kids in three of these four countries, so we will be reading these together this week, to get a glimpse of how our sponsored children might be celebrating.

  1. Ooh, I'm going to go check out the Ghana one. I just got a newsletter from Compassion today about Ghana, too.

  2. Thanks for the links. My compassion kids are all in Hispanola (Haiti and the DR) and all of their celebrations have a heavy Vodou influence. Rara, for example, takes place during Holy Week and has a heavy Vodou influence.

I know much of this is cultural and doesn't mean a whole lot to the people besides dancing and music. Still, it makes me nervous. How do you preserve the culture of a country without compromising the gospel. I suppose its the same as Halloween in the states.

Hey Jill, I'm thinking one of these days we ought to have an offline meetup since we're kinda neighbors :)

  3. Sarah - I would love to meet you! How far are you from Portland?

Also, did you get my email about LDP?
