Juanito brought his dragon and whale along for the viewing…
Juanito really connected with this video! He loved how the family members were introduced and that we were given a tour through the family's house! Juanito was fascinated that the family cooked over a fire and we discussed that although Papi makes a fire in our fireplace, we cook over the fire on the stove instead (we have a gas stove). We then found the family's house on the super cool map.
Juanito wanted to see Cissy's family, so I showed him the photos of Sherinah's visit with Cissy. He liked learning the names of Cissy's family members! (This is a photo of when our former sponsored child, Sherinah, went to visit our current sponsored child, Cissy!)
In looking at the photos, Juanito noticed that Sherinah had her eyes open when Cissy was praying…
This led into a great discussion about how Sherinah is deaf and cannot hear with her ears. So talked about how people who cannot hear with their ears can speak with their hands! We watched this really neat video about a young man, Patrick, who is also from Uganda and deaf like Sherinah! If you haven't seen this video, please watch it. (This video isn't Compassion, but it gives a good idea of what it is like to be deaf in Uganda.)
Juanito said he wanted to talk with his hands, so we watched a Baby Einstein video on Youtube about ALS. If you want to see that, you can click here. Rosie was interested when she heard the word "comer" (or "eat") and joined us for a snack…
After all these tangents, we sang Obedeced en El SeƱor, or Children Obey Your Parents (from Steve Green's CD…it's in English and in Spanish). And then we read Matthew 6:9-13 again. Juanito actually remembered some of the phrases from the passage!
If you have done SIMS with your kids, I'd love to hear things that you did with your kids! I'm having so much fun doing this with Juanito.
