Watch This, Then Let Me Know What You Think

If you have an hour this week, I would encourage you to watch THIS. It's a sermon/talk given by Francis Chan that addresses our response, as Christians, to a world full of people in need.

Then please come back and let me know what you think.

I'm sure you'll have an emotional response right away, but give yourself some time to think about it, and then come back here so we can have a conversation.

If the link above isn't working, here is the web address...

***If that's still not working and you really want to see this, email me at fiddlejill(at)yahoo(dot)com and I'll email you the link. I'm not sure why these aren't working for some.

I'd love to listen to it, but for some reason the link didn't work. Can you post the actual web address? Hope you're doing well :)

Jill, I wasn't able to get to it through the link or the html...is there a title I can use to google it? I am always interested in hearing what Francis Chan has to say.

I'll email you the link. It's weird because the links work for me. I'm not sure why they aren't working for others.

Hey Jill!

Both links actually worked, it just took about 20 minutes to load for some reason. But anyway, thanks SO much for posting this. It was very challenging! I listened to it today while I was making dinner and then Joel and I listened to it together after the kids went to bed. So good and just what we needed to hear. I feel like we were so passionate about helping the poor and the least of these 2 years ago, but then it kind of fizzled out. Lately God has been reminding us of it again and challenging us to make some life changes. So thank you for sharing this!

I'm glad it worked for you and that you had time to watch it. I posted it over at my family blog as well and Kevin (my husband) asked these specific questions.

Im curious if people think Chan is:

1. crazy (he's lost touch with reality and financial stewardship)
2. right, (and we just dont have enough faith)
3. Biblicaly correct but practically incorrect
4. Making an emotional fallacy in his argument
5. Other...

So what do you think? We would love to hear what others think as we've talked about all of the above.

Hey Jill. I was finally able to watch the video, and after all that work it was close to the same message I heard him speak back in February :) Charity was right, the links worked, but it took a long time to connect/download (about 30 minutes on my computer).

In response to your husband's question, I would say that #2 and 3# are probably correct, but I would also say that I have found nothing in the Bible that calls us to be practical.

...to be continued (the told me my comment was too long...)
One of my best friends is turning 71 in a few weeks. Only a few people know this, but when she turned 65, just a couple weeks before she was suppose to retire, she felt like God asked her to give everything away. And she did....all of her retirement. She is single and working in prison ministry where her income falls below poverty level, but every month it is amazing to see how God provides. She is one of the most joyful and wise people I have ever met, and she really is an example to me of what it means to live by faith.

So, it may not seem practical, but I know people who have made the sacrifices that Chan talks about and lives out, and I think we should all examine our lives and seek God in what we could be sacrificing, because I am sure most of us could be doing more...a lot more.
