Mission Trip - Honduras

Recently, my husband and I have become more involved in missions. We are beginning to be intentional about stepping out of our comfort zone and getting glimpses of how others in the world live.

Our children are still young (ages 4 and 6), but we are taking steps towards truly being a mission minded family. Our hope is that in a few years we will either include them on these trips, or we will be serving somewhere full-time as a family. It’s all up to God.

Last week my husband had the opportunity to travel to Honduras with Medical Teams International. He and two other doctors had the opportunity to work through Mision Predisan, a medical clinic in based in Catacamas, Honduras, with five rural clinics.

My husband is not a doctor – at least not the kind that sees and treats patients. He has a PhD in Pharmacology, is certified in medical laboratory sciences, and works among a group of pathologists. He is definitely in the medical field, but his specialties aren't seemingly all that useful in medical missions. Despite this, he is seeking ways to serve and bring his line of work to the mission field. At Mision Predisan he was able to teach the lab technician how to find malaria in a microscope and how to detect parasite eggs in stools.

I share this experience with you as an encouragement to find ways to serve God as a family. It does not have to be in another country. Although this trip was not Compassion related, I strongly believe that becoming a sponsor through Compassion was our first step as missionaries. Now, 16 years later, God is making it possible for us to experience other cultures and learn more about what He is doing around the world.

Great to see your husband stepping out again to help. I read your blog and his experience in Haiti and it seems he could really put some of his skills to use here! I have a special connection with Honduras (2 Compassion kids and some friends there)so happy to see the work being done there. Hope you are doing well!
