Country Expert - Kenya

This week we are headed to Kenya - located on the continent of Africa. When I think of compassion, I think of Kenya as this is where the first child I sponsored was from. When Judith completed her studies, I began sponsoring Dominic. Eleven years later, he is now 21 years old and has one more year in Compassion's program.

Compassion's work in Kenya began in 1980. More than 74,900 children participate in more than 285 child development centers.

  1. We do!! My only "daughter", Brenda, is from Kenya! She's 10 and beautiful with a fantastic smile! She wants to be a doctor or nurse and her English has improved so much that they hardly ever have to translate anything on her letters.

  2. We sponsor Noah in Kenya, and one of our most memorable stories about his sponsorship was "The House That Love Built". We sent him a simple $75 family gift, and prayed with the Compassion workers on the phone for God to stretch it. He did...

    Beyond Measure.

They built a semi-permanent house. For their family of 7. They even had enough left over for extra food... God provides!

  3. that is so neat. Mandi spent 6 wks in Kenya. Maurine is there and we are still in contact with her. She is an LDP graduate. Compassion has changed her life. She lived in the slums up until 3-4 yrs ago and has moved her mom, nephew and sister out of the slum. She is launching the Mercy House.

Thanks for sharing all of this and all the resources!

  5. JD...that is a wonderful story! Thank you for sharing it. My first girl from Kenya also used the extra money we sent her to build her family a home. It's just amazing to see how God uses our gifts.

  6. I write to Siston on behalf of my church. She is an amazing girl! I was so proud of her when she started writing letters to me in English about 2 years ago. It made me watch my grammar in my return letters as a good example to her.

And it made me remember that I am an example to her in other ways as well.
