Earlier this week I got "the call". I knew it was coming, but after realizing why Compassion was calling me, I wished I hadn't answered the phone. You see, as long as they don't actually say the words to me, then it can't be true. But alas, it IS true. Dominic is no longer a little boy whom we sponsor. He's a grown man ~ turning 22 next week. After 12 years of sponsoring him, it's time to say goodbye.
Goodbye, Dominic Muchangi....
During the phone call, the kind Compassion representative asked if they could send us a new child to sponsor. I explained that back in June I called Compassion to see if any of Dominic's younger brothers were available for sponsorship and found out that none were. (One of his brothers is sponsored by someone in France). So then I asked about other available children in KE200 (Dominic's project) and that's how we became sponsors of Jackson!
Just this week my youngest daughter was asking when she would get a real birthday buddy. We have two Compassion children who celebrated birthdays on Oct. 10.... but Kayleigh wanted an exact match - same day, same year (like her big sister has).
So I called Compassion yesterday. They had three to choose from, and after hearing the descriptions of the children and where they lived, I chose Joylyne from Kenya.
Hello Joylyne ~ welcome to our family!
It seems very appropriate to add a special girl from Kenya to our family this week. I hadn't planned to, but I'm so thankful we can. My hope and prayer is that one day I will get to Kenya, and what a joy it would be to take my youngest daughter with me to meet Joylyne.
