Goodbye, Hello

Earlier this week I got "the call". I knew it was coming, but after realizing why Compassion was calling me, I wished I hadn't answered the phone. You see, as long as they don't actually say the words to me, then it can't be true. But alas, it IS true. Dominic is no longer a little boy whom we sponsor. He's a grown man ~ turning 22 next week. After 12 years of sponsoring him, it's time to say goodbye.

Goodbye, Dominic Muchangi....

During the phone call, the kind Compassion representative asked if they could send us a new child to sponsor. I explained that back in June I called Compassion to see if any of Dominic's younger brothers were available for sponsorship and found out that none were. (One of his brothers is sponsored by someone in France). So then I asked about other available children in KE200 (Dominic's project) and that's how we became sponsors of Jackson!

Just this week my youngest daughter was asking when she would get a real birthday buddy. We have two Compassion children who celebrated birthdays on Oct. 10.... but Kayleigh wanted an exact match - same day, same year (like her big sister has).

So I called Compassion yesterday. They had three to choose from, and after hearing the descriptions of the children and where they lived, I chose Joylyne from Kenya.

Hello Joylyne ~ welcome to our family!

It seems very appropriate to add a special girl from Kenya to our family this week. I hadn't planned to, but I'm so thankful we can. My hope and prayer is that one day I will get to Kenya, and what a joy it would be to take my youngest daughter with me to meet Joylyne.

I am sorry that your sponsorship of Dominic is coming to a close. I am sure you've had such an impact in his life (and he, yours)!

I always smile to see new babies. Welcome to the family!
Jill I know you, your family and Dominic were blessed by the relationship God gave you to grow and nurture. I too will have to say goodbye to Lawrence from Uganda and Diane from Rwanda this coming year. I have been thinking about it with each letter I write to them trying to prepare myself. Last month I started sponsoring Ruth in Kenya with Compassion. I am thinking about going to Kenya next year - not with Compassion but with another group but going early to see if I can do an individual visit. I should know soon and can connect with you and maybe take something to Joylyne until you of course will get there one day!

Your possible trip to Kenya sounds great - do let me know if you go! What project is Ruth in?

She is in KE355 in Mathare Valley. I like to call it Mathare valley instead of Mathare slums. Right by Nairobi. I will keep you posted!
Wow, twelve years...I am sure that has got to be hard, but I am sure it is also sweet to see the young man he has become. Plus, you have so many wondeful years to look forward to with little Joylyne
We're praying for your family, Dominic, Jackson, and Joylyne! What a blessing it must be to have had the opportunity to watch Dominic grow over these past twelve years, and how awesome that you were able to sponsor Jackson! I wonder if Dominic and Jackson know each other? Are you planning to stay in touch with Dominic once he graduates? How sweet that you have birthday girls for your daughters! :) We'll also be praying that both you and your youngest daughter can some day travel to Kenya! :)

Thank you! I have requested an info release for Dominic....I've only done this one other time. I will release our info and see if he contacts us. When we first sponsored Jackson, I wrote to both Jackson and Dominic explaining the situation and asking them to get to know each other. I specifically asked Dominic to be a "big brother" to Jackson. I haven't heard from either of them since the sponsorship began so I don't know if they understand.

It would be neat to see what responses you get from both Dominic and Jackson regarding your letters introducing them to each other. J
We plan to fill out the forms for our 3 who are graduating in 2016, and we’ll see where God leads. J

wow how exciting, sad and happy all at the same time. 12 yrs... wow... praying for Dominic and Jackson that they will be able to get to know each other and build a relationship! So happy for your girl and for Jolilyn

Hugs.
