Justice

I just finished a study on justice and there were some things (quotes, ideas, verses, resources...) that are just too good to keep to myself.

First let's look at the definition of justice, shall we?

jus·tice

noun
  1. just behavior or treatment.
    "a concern for justice, peace, and genuine respect for people"
    synonyms:fairness, justness, fair play, fair-mindedness, equity, evenhandedness,impartiality, objectivity, neutrality, disinterestedness, honesty,righteousness, morals, morality

God has commanded us to seek justice. He is the creator of justice and He expects his followers to also seek justice.

He has shown you, O man,
what is good.
And what does the Lord require of you?
to act justly
and to love mercy
and to walk humbly with your God.
Micah 6:8

Meditate and memorize scripture

Therefore the Lord waits to be gracious to you, and therefore he exalts himself to show mercy to you. For the Lord is a God of justice; blessed are all those who wait for him. (Isaiah 30:18)
Learn to do good. Seek justice. Help the oppressed. Defend the cause of orphans. Fight for the rights of widows. (Isaiah 1:17)
If you pour yourself out for the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then shall your light rise in the darkness and your gloom be as the noonday. (Isaiah 58:10)
Let no one seek his own good, but the good of his neighbor. (1 Corinthians 10:24)
The Lord loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of his unfailing love. (Psalm 33:5)
The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free… (Luke 4:18)
No one should seek their own good, but the good of others. (1 Corinthians 10:24)
If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be that person? (1 John 3:17)

Pray

Here's a prayer from St. Francis that you can use to jump start your prayers for justice
Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is discord, harmony;
Where there is error, truth;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master, Grant that I may not so much seek
To be consoled as to console;
To be understood as to understand;
To be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
- Prayer of St. Francis
