What to Write ~ Winter

It's officially winter and January is the perfect month to write to our sponsored kids and tell them what this season is like for us. As I've said before, I'm sure that the way I experience seasons is likely very different from how most of my sponsored children experience seasons....especially winter!

Here are some questions to think about to get you started:
What are your favorite things about winter?
What are the average temperatures during the winter months?
What are your favorite activities to do during this season?
What holidays or other special days do you celebrate during winter?
How long does winter last?
Do you have special memories of winter from your childhood?

If I lived in a snowy climate my letter might sound something like this....

Dear.....

How are you? I am so thankful for the opportunity to write to you again. We recently received a letter from you and were so happy. Thank you for writing to us!

It is winter here and that means it's cold and snowy! I love the look of a snowy, wintery wonderland like you can see in the photo. Isn't it beauitful?

The girls love to get out and play in the snow. Sometimes we build snowmen or snow forts. Other times we have snowball fights or go sledding. Sledding is when you sit on a sled and slide down a snowy hill. It's fun!

Like all the other seasons, winter lasts 3 full months, but that doesn't mean we have snow the whole time. There are some places in our country where snow lasts longer and other places in our country where it doesn't snow at all.

Winter is fun for our family because we all love to celebrate Christmas and New Year's, but also because our oldest daughter, Sydney, celebrates her birthday in January.

We hope this letter finds you well. We love you so much and pray for you and your family every day!
Love,

Currently I don't live in a snowy climate so my letter might sounds more like this....modified just a bit.

Dear.....

How are you? I am so thankful for the opportunity to write to you again. We recently received a letter from you and were so happy. Thank you for writing to us!

It is winter here and that means it's colder temperatures, cloudy skies and rain! We don't live very far from the mountains, though, so we can see snow sometimes and play in it. I love the look of a snowy, wintery wonderland like you can see in the photo. Isn't it beauitful?

The girls love to get out and play in the snow. We love to hike and when we hike around the mountains, we often see snow. The girls like to have snowball fights and make snow angels. Sometimes we bring our sleds along and go sledding. Sledding is when you sit on a sled and slide down a snowy hill. It's fun! When we lived in snowier states, they liked to build snowmen or snow forts.

Like all the other seasons, winter lasts 3 full months. There are some places in our country where winter means snow all the time, but there are other places in our country where it doesn't snow at all. It really depends where you live.

Winter is fun for our family because we all love to celebrate Christmas and New Year's, but also because our oldest daughter, Sydney, celebrates her birthday in January.

We hope this letter finds you well. We love you so much and pray for you and your family every day!
Love,
